Gender mainstreaming is a core element of the project with a strong focus on gender equality and women’s empowerment. In the early project planning phase, a variety of options for integrating gender dimensions in all project activities was identified (Herweijer, 2016 can be downloaded below). Since then the project has actively embedded gender related interventions in all activities e.g. in national policy round tables and regional agenda setting events, women’s empowerment has been addressed by showcasing and analysing policies and success stories and lessons learned from various programmes/projects and in commissioned studies on the agriculture-nutrition nexus in each target country. Efforts have also been made to ensure that women are well represented in all project activities.
In this video, Judith Ann Francis, Senior Programme Coordinator, Science & Technology Policy, and leader of “Promoting Nutritious Food Systems in the Pacific Islands”, explains how the project empowers women.
